Remember how I keep talking about life inevitably getting in the way? Let’s just say the past week has been the type of roadblock that, in the past, wouldn’t have only knocked me out of the NaNo game, but also left me wondering WTF just happened. And, okay, there’s still a fair bit of the latter, but I’m not going to let it get me down.
Here’s a quick recap:
- Sick kids
- Sick me
- Dead body up the road
- Random kid in my car for a while
- News that random kid had been assaulted
- Trying to wrap my head around the evil of the world
- Sick me
- New job
So yeah, that’s where I’ve been. My word count has suffered, but I’m still ahead of the game. I have a new work in progress I never could’ve even dreamed up, but I think it’s going to be a good story. If nothing else, it hits my personal goal of taking the darkness in the world and turning it into something positive. I may not be able to change what has already happened, but in my mind, I will spin a fictional story where the key characters still find their happily ever after.
Today, I will write. I will not aim for a record word count. I will accept that life gets in the way, but it’s moving past those roadblocks that separate the successful writers from the perpetually aspiring writers.
