This isn’t something I would typically do, but this week has given me a hardcore case of the soft and fuzzies. I want everyone to know how much I appreciate the kind thoughts and prayers for my mother-in-law. Here is what I wrote in place of the typical acknowledgments in the back of Godsend:
As I write this, I’m sitting in Nebraska while my mother-in-law fights for her life. Because of that, I had made the decision that I wasn’t going to include this portion of the book because I need to be here for my husband, children, and the rest of our family. Last night, I realized that was a colossal mistake.
No, I’m not going to sit here and beat myself up, knowing I’m forgetting to thank someone. I don’t have a list of every person who has helped me from the point of conception to the finished product. And this time, that has to be enough.
What I do want to do in this space is say thank you to every single person who has ever picked up one copy of one of my books. It is because of you that I never let the lean months chase me away from the job I love more than anything else I’ve done (and believe me, I had to wander a lot to find my passion in life). It’s because of you that I sit down to write every day, even when I want to do anything but. And it is because of you that I was able to pack my laptop into the car last week and make an impromptu trip to be with my family.
Most of us spend a lot of time telling others and reminding ourselves that there is nothing more important than family, but we also find ourselves having to weigh our priorities. Being with family could have meant time off from work and lost wages, but instead, I have been surrounded by the greatest support network anywhere and I’m able to work whenever I have a few minutes to spare. To say I have been overwhelmed with love and kindness sounds cliché, but it’s the truth!
I guess, what I’m trying to say in my stressed out, sleep deprived mind is THANK YOU!!
